Newspaper: Armenia acting FM resigns after 3rd attempt

1 June 2021, 13:03 - NovostiNK
Hraparak daily of Armenia writes: [Acting] Foreign Minister Ara Aivazian has had disagreements with [acting] Nikol Pashinyan since the beginning of his tenure, on November 18.

After his speech on Turkey at the press conference with [Russian FM] Lavrov, he received a harsh remark from the prime minister that, "I decide [Armenia’s] foreign policy; anti-Turkish statements will not be repeated."

Before the resignation on May 27, he [Aivazian] tried to leave [office] twice more. The main reason was the prime minister's ill-considered statements in connection with foreign policy, without the consent of the MFA and the minister.

Every time Aivazian submitted a letter [of resignation]; he was persuaded at all costs to withdraw the letter.

Aivazian arrived in Yerevan from Dushanbe with a clear decision to resign, but was again persuaded that this will be a betrayal to the country's interests.

The last straw was the statement [of Pashinyan] on the mirror retreat and the deployment of [international] observers [on Armenia-Azerbaijan border]. Before that statement, Pashinyan informed Aivazian, he [Aivazian] approached him [Pashinyan] before the SC [i.e., Security Council] session and urged him not to make such a statement, it is not discussed through MFA channels, it is not beneficial for us; we cannot put forward such an agenda. [But] Pashinyan said, "I have already decided."

After the SC session, the minister instructed his spokesperson to post his letter of resignation on Facebook to put an end to his six-month suffering.
