Russian Federation Council chairperson Valentina Matviyenko discussed with the head of the Azerbaijani legislature the possibility of returning to their homeland the Armenian women who were detained during the Nagorno-Karabakh [(Artsakh)] conflict. Matviyenko said this in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"Today I had a telephone conversation with the head of the Azerbaijani legislative power, Sahiba Gafarova. I petitioned to her to give these women a chance to return home. After all, when it comes to women, it is a sensitive issue because it can be someone's mother. I hope the Azerbaijani side will respond to that request," Matviyenko said.
Earlier, speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, had addressed the chairperson of the Russian Federation Council with such a request.
